Canstruction L.A., presented by Goya Foods, is excited to announce the jury panel for the 2015 competition, only several weeks away (April 9-12)! The jury, comprised of professionals in architecture, media, and the culinary worlds will judge the structures—made entirely from canned foods in a 10′ x 10′ x 8’h space. All the money raised, as well as all cans used for the structures, will be donated to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. (See press release for more info on competition>>)

This year we are honored to have on the jury panel: Mary Melton (Editor-in-Chief of Los Angeles Magazine); David Montalba, AIA (Montalba Architects); and Chef Ray Garcia (forthcoming Broken Spanish and BS Taqueria in Downtown L.A.)

Mary Melton joined Los Angeles Magazine in 2000 and was named editor-in-chief in 2009. She has overseen theme issues, written personality profiles and popular culture pieces, and directed the launch of the magazine’s website, http://www.lamag.com/. (Read more>>)

Chef Ray Garcia, best known as the creator of award-winning Fig Restaurant at the Fairmont Miramar Santa Monica, has been able to quietly earn a position among the best in the Los Angeles restaurant scene. Now, Garcia will fine-tune an unfettered voice for Los Angeles dining with the upcoming Broken Spanish and taco concept, BS Taqueria. (Read more in LA Magazine article>>)

All judges on the jury will select winners in the following categories: the Juror’s Favorite, Best Meal, Best Use of Labels, Structural Ingenuity, and Honorable Mention.  In addition to the juried prizes, a People’s Choice Award will be bestowed on the structure that gains the most votes from the public attending the competition. For $1 per vote, visitors can praise their favorite design (this minimal donation can provide enough food for four meals).
